Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode described this special day, June 12, 1993 as the day
Nigerians voted in one voice across ethnic, with racial and religious lines,
saying it represented a day when Nigerians said no to voting along ethnic lines
with a unite believe.
As part of the 22nd year commemoration of the annulled June 12, 1993
presidential election presumed won by the late MKO Abiola. The Lagos State
Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has declared Friday, June 12 a work free day, as it
is been done before he was elected. According to a statement signed by the chief press secretary to the governor Ambode, Mr. ‘’Habib Aruna, Reveal the governor said in the office that the date as been marked as a watershed in the annals of transparent, Just for free and fair elections in Nigeria, which this report as been generate since June 12, 1993.
Governor Ambode described June 12, 1993 as the day Nigerians voted in one voice across ethnic, racial and religious lines, saying it represented the real democracy day ever since when Nigerians said no to voting along ethnic lines from both YOUTH and ADULT in the country.
Mr. Ambode said regrettably, This year is the 22nd years after the annulment, The Nigerian nation is still grappling with some of the vices which the June 12, 1993 elections sought to confine to the dustbin of history through undue clinging to ethnic cleavages by some political gladiators today.
The Governor urged residents to spend there day in sober reflection and in remembrance of the martyrs of the June 12 elections struggle in prayers for laying the foundation of the democracy which the nation is now enjoying since then till date.
